Ensembles and group classes provide opportunities for young musicians to explore music in a supportive and social environment. Join in the fun, and build community through music!
Some ensembles require an audition and a commitment through the entire school year.

Rock Bands Program
Grades 6-12
The heart of Rock at TMS. Students are assigned repertoire and coaching based on their skill and instrument, moving between rehearsals, sectionals, and coaching groups throughout the session. Along the way, they learn music theory, songwriting and audio engineering, and how to collaborate as an ensemble. Each session builds toward a performance or project, including Teen Takeover in December and TMS Fest in May. Not just for guitar, bass, drums, keys, voice - other instruments are welcome! Pre-Requisites
Placement audition required. Band members must have their own instruments. Private lessons are strongly encouraged, but not required.

House Band
Grades 6-12
TMS's most committed students take the stage as ambassadors for the school in this auditioned ensemble. Members take on more challenging repertoire and performance opportunities beyond the Rock Bands Program session/project calendar. Selection is competitive, with a limited number of spots by instrument: drums (1), keys (1), bass (1), guitar (up to 2), vocalists (up to 2). Rehearsals run all year with a dedicated faculty leader, and members must be enrolled in private lessons to participate. House Band members are also invited to participate in all aspects of the 6:00-7:30pm Rock Bands session, though attendance is optional. Led by Bands Faculty

Beginner Rock Band
Grades 4-5
Where classroom turns into a band! Students with at least a year's experience on their instrument start prepare songs, work on individual instrumental parts, listen and respond to their bandmates, handle their own gear setup and teardown, and perform what they've built. Beginner Rock Band is designed to build the independence and rehearsal habits that carry students forward as they develop as musicians. Led by Clinton Weaver.
Pre-Requisites
Readiness audition required. Students must be enrolled in private lessons to enroll in Beginner Band. Band members must have their own instruments, demonstrate basic proficiency on chosen instrument, be a team player and want to have fun!

Rock Band Prep
Grades 3-5
Get ready to rock by building the basic skills needed to play in a band! Young rockers new to playing in a group will learn fundamentals of keyboard, strings (ukulele) and drumming (buckets and body percussion), honing individual skills while learning to work as a team. Rock Band Prep is designed to be a launchpad for students to participate in our Rock Bands Program offerings, giving aspiring musicians a taste of being in a band. Led by Clinton Weaver & Clay Humphrey.

An interest in playing music in a group. No prior experience necessary.

Bucket Band
Grades 3-5
Drummer Ed Domer will introduce students to the basics of rhythm and teamwork in this after school program for elementary school students. Bucket Band is designed to offer students the opportunity to explore their interest in drumming and be a springboard to participate in private lessons and ultimately our popular music ensembles.
Students should come with their own pair of drumsticks.

Group Uke
Grades 1-2 & 3-5
Ukulele is a great first instrument! In this fun, supportive group class, young musicians will learn the fundamentals of playing ukulele through familiar songs, games, and hands-on instruction. Students will develop basic chords, strumming patterns, rhythm, and note reading while building confidence and a love of making music.
Classes are divided by age (Grades 1–2 and Grades 3–5) so instruction is tailored to each stage of learning, providing a strong musical foundation that can lead to future ensemble participation and private lessons. Led by Molly Moon Thorn

Youth Choir
Grades 3-5
Youth Choir is a group-singing experience designed to help young voices build healthy singing habits while experiencing the joy of ensemble singing. Participants will explore vocal fundamentals (pitch, rhythm, breathing, diction) in a fun, supportive environment. Led by Melissa Elliott, the choir will master a selection of songs every session and have opportunities to perform in the community.
Music and singing materials provided.

Bluegrass Junior Jam
Grades 3-5
Discover the fun of making music together in the rich tradition of bluegrass! Designed for young musicians with some experience on their instrument, Bluegrass Junior Jam introduces students to the fundamentals of playing in an acoustic ensemble. Guitarists, fiddlers, mandolin players, banjo players, and ukulele players will learn to keep a steady rhythm, play simple melodies, take turns leading, and listen to one another as they build confidence playing together. Whether your goal is to jam around a campfire or take the stage, this class is a fun next step in becoming a well-rounded musician. Led by Clay Humphrey.
Students should bring their own instruments.

Comfortable playing a few chords, scales, or simple melodies on guitar, fiddle, mandolin, banjo, ukulele or bass.

Adventures in Sound
Grades 1-2
Discover fundamental music concepts - pitch, rhythm, and timbre - through play-centered activity that emphasizes creativity and curiosity. Students invent, listen, and collaborate in a fun, social group setting, building confidence and connection through music-making. Adventures in Sound is a joyful, sound-filled adventure in music-making. No experience needed, just imagination and a love of music. Led by Cheryl DeLong
